First look: Trek’s Speed Concept 9.9

US bike maker unveils £9k superbike

Formula One racing, a mountain of curry and the unveiling of a super tri bike… If Carlsberg did bike shows, well, they wouldn’t come close to Trek’s offering.

The highlight of their recent Trek World at Silverstone was a first in-the-flesh look at the 2014 Speed Concept 9 Series. The 9.9 was tested on the courses of Ironman Hawaii and Arizona (and in the wind tunnel with one Fabian Cancellera), and is undoubtedly designed with the globe-trotting triathlete in mind.

The top-of-the-range 9.9 seen here has a host of refinements to the feted original, with updates including a storage system that’s said to improve aerodynamics, easy adjustment for travel, countless cockpit adjustability options, a 437g reduction in weight, and entirely internally-routed cables.
