Blenheim Palace tri to crown Ultimate Weekend Warrior
New entry type unveiled for 2014 - but only 20 places available
After a successful trial at this year’s Blenheim Palace Triathlon last June, the organisers have officially added Weekend Warrior as a brand new entry type for the 2014 event, in which participants are challenged to complete as many sprint triathlons as possible over the two-day event.
There will be just 20 places available for the Weekend Warrior category at a price of £150 per entry, with participants selected on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Organisers say four places have already been taken during the 48-hour high-priority window.
The new format was trialled at this year’s event by a group of amateur athletes, who completed 24 successive triathlons over the course of two days, battling it out for the title of ‘Ultimate Weekend Warrior’.
Organisers IMG added: “We’re hoping to attract some endurance triathletes and offer a stage on which middle-distance triathletes and Ironman hopefuls can test themselves with the ability to stop and rest if needed.”
For those less inclined towards the gruelling Weekend Warrior challenge, places will also be available for sprint, super sprint and team relay races over the course of the weekend (7-8 June 2014).
Entries will go on general sale at midday tomorrow (30 August, 2013), with over 7,000 triathletes expected at next year’s event, making it the UK’s second-largest after the London Triathlon.
