BUCS Standard Champs set for Cholmondeley

BUCS announce that the 2013 BUCS Standard Distance Champs will take place at Cholmondeley Castle

The Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon, Cheshire (Sunday 23 June 2013), has been announced as the chosen destination for the annual British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Standard Distance Triathlon Championships.

Students are being invited to join a bespoke wave in the event that will see them race for podium position and compete for crucial BUCS points for their University in individual and team categories.

The Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon is one of five triathlon weekend events held at iconic castles and stunning settings across UK, France and Ireland. In its fourth year, Cholmondeley Castle has doubled in size expecting 1,000 competitors and will be offering spectators a festival atmosphere with music and food in the event village.

This is the first time that the BUCS Triathlon Championship has been held at a Castle Triathlon Series event and it is already attracting a lot of interest from students across the country including fan of the Series, Luke Watson. His fellow student David Bishop loves the Series: “The Markel Castle Triathlon Series is now the biggest series in the country and it just keeps getting better. It stands out from other races because of its festival feel, at other events you turn up, race and leave, here you want to stay and soak it in.”

Iridescent Deer Park Mere Lake

All races at Cholmondeley Castle start by launching into an open-water swim in the iridescent Deer Park Mere Lake, transitioning into the technical cycle circumnavigating Bickerton Hill, which is the southern most tip of the Peckforton hills. The run passes through the stunning estate grounds and with a sprint down the main lawn to the finish with Cholmondeley Castle as a fitting backdrop.

Students interested in competing in the BUCS Standard Distance Triathlon Championship at Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon should contact their athletic union who can enter them via BUCS’ online entry system, BUCScore.

Also the National Student Middle-Distance Triathlon Championships could be next on the agenda for the Castle Triathlon Series explains BUCS Sports Manager, Ed Curran: “The Castle Triathlon Series has been discussing the potential of BUCS sanctioning their new half iron distance (The Gauntlet at Hever Castle Triathlon) and are pleased that we will be working with them to examine the level of interest and growth in this distance with a view to potentially sanctioning it in the future.” Already twenty places are held by students for the new race on Sunday 29 September at Hever Castle demonstrating the growing trend for the distances appeal.

The Castle Triathlon Series is also offering all students a 50% discount to any of their other events. Students can email admin@castletriathlonseries.co.uk for a unique booking code before registering at www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk.
