Inov-8 Trailroc 245

Excellent all-condition and all-terrain off-road shoes

Trail shoes are usually a compromise and no more than a road shoe with a bit of token grip. This is fine for manicured trails but for real rough stuff they don’t cut it.

Fortunately, this criticism can’t be levelled at the Trailrocs. Weighing in at an impressively light 269g (UK10), the 245 sits in the middle of the TrairRoc range and offer a fairly minimalist amount of cushioning and 3mm heel-to-toe differential.

Running to the trailhead, they feel good on tarmac and, unlike and all-out fell shoe, you don’t dread road or hardpack.

The mixed compound outsole increases duability, too. On mud, rock and – even the trail shoe’s nemesis – steep and wet grass, they bit and let you run fast and with confidence.

You feel connected to the trail and a relatively wide toe box lets your feet behave naturally.
