South Manchester Triathlon launched

September race forms part of Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series

New for 2012, Xtra Mile Events has launched the South Manchester Triathlon, which will be taking place on 23 September 2012.

The 2012 edition will be held in the familiar setting of the Wilmslow Triathlon before moving to a new permanent home next season. A pool based sprint distance triathlon, the South Manchester Triathlon is aimed at novices and experienced triathletes alike, and it’s a fantastic event to conclude the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series 2012.

The start and finish is on the cricket pitch at the Wilmslow Leisure Centre and the 400m swim takes place in the 25m indoor pool, with triathletes starting in waves throughout the day.

The mostly flat 24.2 km cycle ride takes competitors around the leafy town of Wilmslow and the scenic Cheshire plains, as far as Ashley and Mobberly. The 6.3 km run goes out from the leisure centre along mainly quiet, leafy roads around east Wilmslow and is a mostly flat route with some inclines near the River Bollin.

Although the South Manchester Triathlon is part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series competitors can sign up for it as a single event.

Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for team relay entries, including numbered racking, electronic chip timing and an excellent goody bag. The prize giving takes place after the event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize and novice prize.

Entries close on 16th September 2012.

The South Manchester Triathlon is BTF sanctioned with shower facilities, pre- and post race massages and parking on site.

Further remaining events in the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series are the Leeds Xpress Triathlon on 29 July and the Macclesfield Triathlon on 12 August.
