2012 Hever Castle Evening Series kicks off
Wednesday night saw the first event of the Evening Sprint Triathlon Series take place at Hever Castle. Over 250 triathletes raced around the castle grounds, including first timers, elites and children all enjoying a sporting challenge while raising money for the Hospice in the Weald.
Race Director, Brian Adcock comments: “We launched the Evening Sprint Triathlon Series in response to demand and recognition from local triathletes after they enjoyed the prime location of the weekend Hever Castle Triathlon event. The response has been hugely positive with the format being hailed as a novel and inspiring way to break up the week.”
There were three race distances which kicked off at 5pm including a bespoke 7:30pm city wave tailored for contenders coming down from London:
Adult Sprint: 750m/20km/5km (swim/cycle/run)
Adult Super Sprint: 400m/20km/4km
Junior and Children: 300m/4km/4km, 200m/4km/2km, 100m/4km/1.3km
All triathletes started off with an open water swim in the 38-acre Hever Castle Lake, transitioning into the cycle that took place around a circuit through the High Weald of Kent, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty used on the Hever Castle Triathlon main event. The run then circumnavigated the estate and castle grounds before making the dash to the finish beside the lake.
Dominic Chapman of Littlehampton and Redhill’s Alison Steel took the wins in the sprint event. Results and more on the series at www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk.
