Places in ITU London sprint-distance going fast

Remaining places in the sprint distance age group race at this year’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London are going fast, say organisers

Remaining places in the sprint distance age group race at this year’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London are going fast, say organisers today.

Fewer than 100 spots now remain for The Hyde Park event, on the weekend of July 24/25th, which is part of a global series that attracts live TV audiences and big crowds.

Age-group triathletes get to savour the event’s amazing atmosphere as well as getting a taste of the 2012 Olympic venue before the Games have even begun.

Top Briton Alistair Brownlee won the event in 2009 and, given the strength in depth of the current GB squad, more home-grown success might be on the menu this year.

The Sprint distance (750m swim / 20km bike / 5km run) is a great stepping stone for new triathletes who want to sample a big event but are not yet ready for the full Olympic distance.

More than 3,000 age-groupers will be in action at the 2010 event – such is the popularity of this new event on the calendar, which provides the sport of triathlon in the UK with a shop-window to the world.

The 2010 event will see the women’s elite race, Sprint Distance Age Group, Junior Aquathlon and Paratriathlon staged on Saturday 24th July, the men’s elite race and Olympic Distance age group races take place on Sunday 25th July.

Before or after racing, triathletes and their families and friends can relax in the setting of London’s iconic Royal Park and take in the Expo area with stands featuring all the latest gear and gadgets as well as nutrition and other outlets.
