Giant Ixion

Reviewing cycle helmets is an odd task. The most important test (whether it protects your head in a crash) will have been carried out long before a helmet hits the market.

Assuming it protects you (and the Ixion’s CE EN1078 certification suggests it will), all that’s left for anyone else to do is see what it’s like to wear. Either that or try to induce serious head injury to see if the lab tests are really all they’re cracked up to be…

Available in charcoal, blue, silver and black, the Ixion is a one-size-fits-all lid for bonces with 54-58cm brims, and you can get a secure, comfy fit courtesy of the pads, straps and retaining band.

But it isn’t as close around your crown as some, particularly at the back. The thicker substitute pads (supplied) help but don’t altogether solve the problem, although they do a good job of absorbing sweat, helped by the Ixion’s 22 cooling vents.
