Women only tri workshop

Nottingham based Absolute Triathlon Coaching will be holding a women only triathlon workshop, aimed at complete beginners, on 14 February at Southglade Leisure Centre in Nottingham

Nottingham based Absolute Triathlon Coaching will be holding a women only triathlon workshop, aimed at complete beginners, on Sunday 14 February at Southglade Leisure Centre in Nottingham.

The workshop will be led by Level 3 Triathlon Coach Steve Lloyd and will provide guidance and advice for women interested in trying triathlon. The short course will feature both practical and classroom elements covering all 3 disciplines plus transition practice and is open to any novice female over the age of 15. Steve Lloyd said “The focus will be to cover the basics of triathlon such as clothing and equipment, bike set-up and swim technique in a fun and informal environment plus there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and have a go; transitions is an area that we get asked a lot about so we’ll be giving lots of practical advice around this subject.”

With more and more women entering the sport Absolute Triathlon are keen to ensure that there is a supportive environment where women can come along and have a go with like-minded people with no pressure or expectation. Although the workshop is primarily geared for beginners anyone that has done an event previously could also benefit from attending. Jayne Lloyd, organiser commented “We realise there are many women who would like to try triathlon but feel it is only for the super fit, we want to re-assure anyone coming along to the workshop that it really is for all abilities, our only requirement is that you need to be able 50 mtrs without stopping other than that no experience of triathlon is necessary.”

Absolute Triathlon already hold a monthly women only bike session as part of their club and the workshop is a natural progression to encourage more females into the sport and anyone can come along. Steve will be assisted on the day by bike expert and Tri Coach Mick Green plus ASA swim teachers Sarah Cleaton and Kate Long who will be on hand to work on swim technique and stroke development during the swim session.

The day will finish with a question and answer session as well as guidance on training, races and race preparation.

The workshop starts at 1.00 pm and finishes at 6.00 pm with a short coffee break mid afternoon, participants are required to bring any working bike, helmet, trainers, clothing suitable for biking and running, swim kit, snacks and bottle. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided and there is a cafeteria on site serving hot food. The cost is £30 and women can book on-line at www.absolute-triathlon-coaching.co.uk.
